Midnight Moon by Gerri Hill
Author Gerri Hill scores another possible award nomination with Midnight Moon. It is without a doubt a romance as the overall theme is one of my favorites: If two people are meant to be together, no matter what, they will be together, even if it takes some time.
The reader first meets Peyton Watts, an accountant who is still trying to deal with her long-term relationship ending in an affair with her best friend. Susan, Peyton’s secretary, convince Peyton to take a week off and spend it relaxing at a lesbian vacation spot.
Next, the reader meets Logan Weaver (oh how I love that for a first name) as she steps inside the office of the manager of the Rainbow Island Resort, Emma. Emma is Logan’s step-sister and the Rainbow is a lesbian resort hot spot. Logan is about to celebrate her 30th birthday and where better to do that than at a lesbian resort, especially when your sister provides the room.
It’s lust-at-first sight when Logan’s eyes land on Peyton lounging near the swimming pool. While flattered by Logan’s flirting and bold suggestions, Peyton declines, declines and declines some more until finally an invitation to walk on the beach at midnight and enjoy conversation sitting in the sand under the moon sounds too good to pass up.
One night of hot, steamy passion leads to more until time for Peyton to return back to the boring life of a steady, conservative accountant and Logan to regain her happy, free-spirited life. Of course, it wouldn’t be a romance if these two women could just turn, walk away and never have another thought of the other ever again. So, Logan thinks of Peyton and Peyton thinks of Logan, although going on dates with fellow accountant Margot Joseph.
That is until … wait for it … wait for it … they run into each other at a party and each of them has a date. Can they rekindle their passion from their time on the beach? Can they have a relationship now that they know each other in “real” life? The reader is sure to quickly find out as they’ll find this book very, very difficult to put down. Yes, it passed my on-sitting-read test.
Once again, Hill gives us a book that we not only cannot put down, but will surely take the award-givers sit up and take notice. It’s the well-developed characters and the twisting, turning real-life storyline that make Midnight Moon worthy of some serious recognition.
